Territory (2022) is a ceramic installation alluding to the rhythmic repetition needed to bring some sense of order into situations where chaos is near. Intended also as a metaphor for profound change, the series transits slowly from terracotta to porcelain, one gram at a time, element by element.
The elements are ‘pinch pots’: the oldest, simplest, and most immediate method of working with clay. In this simple act of ‘pinching’ the clay, the hand becomes an inexact tool of the mind. The intuitive element of the direct contact between hand and clay means that one affects the mood of the other.
The title is borrowed from Deleuzian philosophy.
